“The Demon King’s Daughter Is Too Kind!” or “Maou no Musume wa Yasashisugiru!”, is to me, frankly one of the most wholesome pieces of manga that I have ever come across. Hands down.
It’s centered around Dou, the daughter of the Demon Lord as she tries to learn to be evil as to follow in her father’s footsteps. Unfortunately for her but rather fortunately for us, she doesn’t quite understand how to be ‘Evil’ and thus when prompted by her tutor Jahy, to perform devious activities, Dou defaults to her true nature. One of pure kindness and joyfulness, using it to accomplish the task assigned to her.
This continual interaction over varying settings and tasks brings us a variety of enacted, wholesome scenes, as Dou fulfills her tasks in her own way, leaving Jahy hopeless but awestruck by Dou’s method of accomplishing these tasks.
The Story of “The Demon King’s Daughter Is Too Kind!”, has a wide range of intriguing characters which each have their own well rounded personalities, from the terrifying demon lord who has a soft side for his daughter to the aforementioned tutor Jahy, who has made it her goal to teach Dou the ways of the demon lord, but ends up being more of a babysitter than a tutor to Dou and her adorable antics.
Still, even within the short term characters who appear once in the whole story to the long standing characters, neither hold a candle to Dou. The adorable little airheaded demon learns more about the kindness and it’s effect on others with each chapter of the story. Though the character development may not be evident, I can assure you that it is present as minor mannerisms of hers can be observed to be changing as the story continues.
From a purely character point of view, It is hard to imagine any other pieces of work that can rival such simple looking but complicated characters.
The story of “The Demon King’s Daughter Is Too Kind!” is simple but effective. Emphasizing on the conflict of Dou’s kind nature and her responsibilities as a demon, the story is spun around her daily life as she tries to become a responsible and ‘Evil’ demon in order to curb her father’s worries for her future.
Jahy -Second in command to only the Demon Lord- , thus acts as a tutor for Dou, in hopes of molding her into a respectable demon for the future. But to her dismay, Dou’s personality of being a natural airhead and her unmatched intrinsic kindness leads to unexpected but wholesome interactions, imparting these positive traits onto Jahy herself; rather than the opposite, which Jahy had hoped for.
Regardless of the this main plot, the story includes a plethora of characters with differing personalities each of whom have differing personalities and interactions in a variety of different settings. Hence, though the main plotline may remain the similar, the varying changes in the settings and inclusion of new and old characters in each chapter will leave you craving for even more chapters!
The art in “The Demon King’s Daughter Is Too Kind!” is adorable and expressive. Dou is especially well-drawn, and she is always portrayed with a kind and gentle smile. The other characters are also well-drawn, and they help to bring the story to life.
Furthermore, the type of strokes and portrayal of characters are also well expressed via the art. Using the sharpness and softness of lines and strokes correctly to portray the more strict or scary characters as kind and soft when necessary, the use of proper spacing and anatomy, and even backgrounds and effects are exquisite.
Overall, the art acts as a pivotal part of the Manga alongside the story, allowing the character and backgrounds to come into their own light effortlessly, further enhancing the story.
“The Demon King’s Daughter Is Too Kind!” is a heartwarming and inspiring manga that will leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. It is genuinely the most wholesome manga I have ever read in my now 7+ Years of reading various novels and Manga. It is the perfect antidote for when you feel down, or just in general and it is sure to make you smile.
I highly recommend this manga to anyone looking for a feel-good read. It is a surefire way to brighten your day.
